Wellbridge Offering Free Community NARCAN Training

Press Release
05.03.2023

Workshops will teach how to administer life-saving drug to opioid overdose victims and distribute free NARCAN kits

CALVERTON, NEW YORK, May 2, 2023, – Wellbridge, a substance use disorder treatment and research center located in Long Island, New York, is offering a slate of workshops on how to administer NARCAN and prevent opioid overdose deaths, led by a certified Wellbridge medical professional. NARCAN is a nasal spray capable of reversing the effects of opioid overdose in minutes.

The workshop, titled From Warning Signs to Saving a Life, will cover:

  • The signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose, and what to do
  • How to administer NARCAN
  • The 911 Good Samaritan Law, which protects emergency callers from arrest

Many opioid overdoses take place in the presence of others, making NARCAN a vital tool. A free NARCAN kit will be distributed to each attendee of Wellbridge workshops.

“Suffolk County is among the New York counties with the most overdose deaths in the state, with over 30 per 100,000 residents,” said Wellbridge VP of Marketing and Business Development Cynthia Ruf. “This rate has doubled over the past decade. With the introduction of powerful opiates like fentanyl into our communities, it is vital that our friends, family and neighbors have the invaluable ability to administer NARCAN.”

Wellbridge will visit local libraries and colleges to engage the community and pass on this potentially life-saving knowledge. Trainings open to the public will begin on May 25, at the Patchogue Medford Library. Further trainings are currently being scheduled for Spring and Summer 2023.
